A few short months after killing off its Streak 5 and Streak 7 tablets, Dell is apparently discussing plans to make a comeback to the tablet market later this year. The company’s Chief Commercial Officer Steve Felice said that Dell has been lying low and learning from competitors’ mistakes.
A recent report has once again stirred up rumors that Google is planning a tablet of its very own, a product line that could be akin to the company’s series of Nexus Android smartphones. The tablet could debut sometime in March or April of this year, according to the report, and it will be priced to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which retails for $199.
Cisco has reportedly stopped selling its Umi home videoconferencing system. The decision marks the end of a short life for the product, which was launched just over a year ago in October 2010. It’s yet another move by Cisco to reduce its presence in the consumer market, where the company has had difficulty making headway.
The Windows Phone OS is great, but Microsoft’s dealings with device makers and carriers is lousy. That’s the gist of a blog entry posted recently by Charlie Kindel, a former general manager of Windows Phone, who’s explained why he thinks Windows Phone sales have failed to take off. Kindel also laid blame on customers who don’t know what they’re buying.
It appears that Google’s relatively new Chrome browser has displaced Mozilla Firefox from the No. 2 spot in the worldwide browser market, following leader Microsoft Internet Explorer. "Three years ago, we built Chrome to help spur more innovation on the Web, and we’re excited that over 200 million people around the world are using it," Google spokesperson Lily Lin told the E-Commerce Times.
