Dow Jones & Co. said Monday it would add Cisco Systems, the world’s largest maker of computer networking hardware, to the 30-stock industrial average, replacing General Motors. The change takes effect June 8. The automotive giant filed for bankruptcy protection Monday.
E Ink, the maker of the innovative display for the Amazon Kindle e-book reader, said Monday it has agreed to be acquired by a Taiwanese company for $215 million. The buyer is Prime View International, which has been Cambridge, Mass.-based E Ink’s partner in making “electronic ink” displays for Amazon.com and Sony.

Clearwire, which is building a nearly nationwide wireless data network, said Wednesday that Cisco Systems has agreed to make devices that can use that network. Clearwire has its new WiMax network up and running in Baltimore and Portland, Ore., but it doesn’t have a lot of devices that can use the network apart from USB modems for laptops.
A new $50 unlimited-calling plan sold under the Boost brand has been a badly needed success story for Sprint Nextel, luring hundreds of thousands of new customers, by industry estimates. However, dealers and customers report widespread problems with texting on the Boost network. Messages are frequently delayed by hours, in many cases reaching their recipients early in the morning.
