While P2P systems were made famous — or infamous — by the likes of Napster in the mid-90s, the common thread with those systems was the general architecture. P2P systems consist of a distributed network architecture that requires participants to make a portion of their computer system resources directly available to other network participants without the need for a central server.

It’s no mistake. This credit card’s interest rate is 79.9 percent. The bloated APR is how First Premier Bank, a subprime credit card issuer, is skirting new regulations intended to curb abusive practices in the industry. It’s a strategy other subprime card issuers could start adopting to get around the new rules.

Google is in talks to acquire Yelp, an online local search and business review provider, in a deal that could be worth more than $500 million, according to unconfirmed accounts. The rumor has credence among tech watchers, as the two companies have flirted with an acquisition in the past. In recent months, the discussions seem to have become more serious.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center, key privacy group, has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission arguing that the privacy changes Facebook made a little more than a week ago were unfair and deceptive. “We think this is the most important matter now before the FTC, Marc Rotenberg, EPIC’s executive director, told the E-Commerce Times.
