It’s no surprise that banks are pushing rewards cards given their popularity with consumers. The catch is that the cards being offered are now more likely to have annual fees. In the third quarter, 28 percent of rewards card offers came with annual fees, up from 21 percent in the same period last year, according to market research firm Synovate, which tracks credit card mailings to households.

Hope was a slogan and a sentiment that played a major role in the U.S.presidential election of 2008, and hope continues to be the mindset of technology advocates pushing for cloud computing in the public sector. As a former government employee in the intelligence field, I can easily see how cloud computing can contribute to the country’s security and prosperity.

HP has significantly elevated its efforts to become an indispensable full-service supplier to cloud computing aspirants, especially telecommunications, mobile and Internet service providers. At Software Universe in Hamburg, Germany, HP this month announced three new offerings designed to enable cloud providers and enterprises to securely lower barriers to adoption.

Am I kidding me? Forecasting the year ahead? Sheesh! One of the reasons the task I set for myself is so daunting this year is that I believe we are in a massive transition state that affects the whole economy, CRM included. I think Tom Friedman got it right in version 2.0 of his Hot, Flat and Crowded.

The mad rush for e-readers this holiday season has led Barnes & Noble to offer in-store certificates worth $100 to customers who won’t get its device, called the “Nook,” by Christmas Eve as promised. B&N has said that demand is so strong it can’t keep up with the orders.

U.S. airlines may not keep passengers waiting in an airplane on a tarmac — whether for take-off clearance or stalled because of bad weather or just about any other reason — for more than three hours, according to new rules issued by the Department of Transporation. After two hours, airlines are required to give passengers food and water.
