Two Minnesota newspapers will receive a share of state grants normally given to retrain workers in manufacturing and other industries in transition. The Duluth News Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press will work with the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication to help staff adapt to an increasingly Internet-based industry.

The music industry has lost more than 30 percent in sales since 2001 because of illegal downloading, a top industry official said Wednesday, giving evidence in a Swedish trial. John Kennedy, the head of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, told the Stockholm District Court that Swedish site The Pirate Bay had become “the No. 1 source of illegal music.”

The Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously ruled for AT&T in the company’s antitrust dispute with an Internet service provider over prices for high speed Internet access. The court reversed a decision by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The appeals court had ruled the telecom company was setting its wholesale prices so high that an ISP could not compete with the low prices AT&T charged in the retail market.

Oracle continued its fast-following ways last week when it introduced additional functionality for Oracle On-Demand Release 16. The statement completed a two-part announcement begun the week before and brings to eight the number of new on-demand CRM applications from the company.

Not even Apple — purveyor of the mighty iPhone, iPod and Mac trifecta — will escape the recession unscathed. That’s what Pacific Crest Securities equity analyst Andy Hargreaves said Monday as he slashed his 12-month price target on Apple’s stock from $150 per share to $120 per share. Hargreaves also reduced his earnings estimate on Apple in light of the downturn.
